If It’s Not One Thing…

My hat is off to other families who manage to toss off the docklines and go sailing with their kids for more than a year or two.  We’re still in the planning stages, but the number of steps involved continues to be daunting.

My wife is correct in that the number one thing we need first is experience, but that along will take years as we shoe-horn some off-shore trips into our work and parenting schedules.   I’m envious of those who built their experience and confidence before they had kids, so that they have a foundation before doing all the other steps (finances, education, health care, re-entry?).

So, as much as I’d like to be seeking out a voyaging boat, it has to wait until we have more than chartering and coastal cruising experience, but there’s no way we’re going to “prepare forever.”  The ticking clock for us is the age of the kids.  For some reason, they keep getting older and larger…
